Welcome to Class 1!
Our Class Teacher is Mrs McIntee. Miss Bickerton and Mrs Harris are 1:1 teaching assistants in our class too. Our class is based in the mobile classroom which gives the benefit of a fantastic canopy and outdoor area so we can take our learning out the classroom where appropriate.
Our Spring topic in Year 1 was " A Trip Down Memory Lane".
We found out about what life was like in Victorian times for children, at home and at school. We went to The Cottage Museum in Woodhall Spa to find out more and we have also learnt about significant people from that time e.g. Queen Victoria, William Morris and Sir Robert Falcon Scott who was an explorer.
Our new topic for Summer is a question "What makes the World Beautiful?" The children will be exploring how the world is beautiful through art, literacy, RE, PSHE, science and geography and they will be considering how to keep it beautiful which will include growing their own flowers and vegetables. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder so we will have the opportunity to discuss what we believe is beauty on an individual basis. See the topic web for more detail - this will be sent home and posted on the website.
The Phonics Screen Check takes place in the Summer term in the week beginning Monday 10th June so please continue to support your child with their reading at home.
Trip to The Cottage Museum
We had a fantastic trip to The Cottage Museum in February (2019) where we found out about the children who had lived in the bungalow in Victorian Woodhall Spa. We got dressed up and played with toys from that era. There were marbles, pick up sticks, yo-yos, board games, dolls and a beautiful dolls house.
